Obviously, "Holy Grail" is different for everyone and it doesn't always have to be an album costing in the hundreds or even thousands (like a butcher cover). One of my very holiest of grails is a top loading Greek White Album on Parlophone. I was bought one back in the Summer of 1969 by an aunt during an extended family visit to the "old country". I was 10 years old and was blown away that Greece even had any Beatle records. I didn't get to play it till a month later when we returned to the states in September (two days before the start of "junior high school"). i can still almost feel the transfixed state of mind it put me in as I listened to it for the first time, staring at the Parlophone label spinning round and round on my little RCA phonograph. I have many copies of The Whits Album but treasure none as much as this one...which I moronically "lost" over time.
I actually purged my collection of several thousand records and now it's down to about 600 and I have never enjoyed my collection more. All killer and no filler. One day I realized that I had records I had not listened to for many years. I began by going through them one by one and holding each one and asking myself if it brought me joy (Marie Kondo style ). I now listen more and I listen to my whole collection.
A complete set of near mint Apple UK Badfinger albums along with a near mint Iveys Maybe Tomorrow from either Germany, Japan or Italy.
Until the 3 CD box came out, it was the Birds Bees Monkees mono album. I pretty much have everything I want although I'd love Greg Hawkes Niagara Falls on CD.
I hope to do that too, one day. I have set my sights at 500, but - starting from 10,000 - that may be a tad overoptimistic.

Just bought the last one I was looking for VJLPS 1085 Beatles & Frank Ifield On Stage Stereo Portrait cover. Harder to find than the Stereo Introducing the Beatles Ad back.
This compilation LP which is the last of Julian Cope's Album of the Month for which I don't have a physical copy (other than the Postpunksamplers and other JC-compiled "albums" which were never physically released). The sole web reference I can find is the review itself, so either it is a regional LP (its a Danish garage-rock comp) or a bootleg. Either way, who knows if I would ever find it, but every once and a while I'll do another web search in vain. Other than that, I'd take an original copy of Sun Ra-Cosmic Tones for Mental Therapy (1967).
Short list: Fairport Convention - Unhalfbricking and Liege And Lief (OG UK Pink Island Labels) Dillard & Clark - Fantastic Expedition (OG A&M) Replacements - Let It Be (OG Twin Tone) Monkees - Birds, Bees, & Monkees (OG Mono) Not super ambitious I know (except probably the Monkees)... I just need to get used to the idea of dropping $50-$100 for a record.
I acquired a copy of HEJIRA in immaculate condition here in the Twin Cities for about $4. Sonics of COYOTE and AMELIA absolutely shine!!
I do this ever so often. There are some albums I acquire, and realize, I will never listen to this one again. I will either sell it, or pass it on to someone that will enjoy it. This practice definitely works for me, and also helps others.
