This is cool, The Springfield has not gotten the 192/24 remaster treatment until now. The 88/24 HDCD remasters that Neil's team did previously in the late 90's were for the BS box set.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d much rather have a reissue of the stereo mix of Baby Don’t Scold Me* than a 192 remaster of the rest.

*The 45 mixes would be nice too.

If it doesn't have the 9-minute version of Bluebird, forget it. It may not. Stills isn't fond of it.

I’m not, either. It would be different if it was a real extended jam on the tune but it’s just something tacked onto it that doesn’t belong there and goes nowhere, not to mention the horrendous edit.

What do you mean by "the horrendous edit"? I can understand not caring for the electric portion, but the edit itself sounds good to me.

Maybe that was the wrong choice of words. The edit itself is fine but I don’t care for the way it turned out - it’s just too jarring and sounds like it doesn’t belong there, like it’s just cut in from another tape of a different jam, rather than an extension of what we’ve been listening to. It’s probably just because I prefer the album version. I’m not surprised Stills doesn’t like it.

Pretty sure "Last Time Around" was released on mono. Was it a fold down?

There was a mono promo, which I believe was a fold-down.

My understanding is mono mixes were created for all of the songs, however.

Neil Young used either acetates or scratchy 45s for the mono Mr. Soul in the BuffBox and his Archives releases.

That's a different mix. The 45 mix hasn't been reissued, other than on this ACE CD:

Jon Savage's 1967 - The Year Pop Divided

My understanding is it's a needledrop on there.

I know, the people aren't cut out or anything. And where's the Victorian cutout? BABITZ OR BUST!

I'm pretty sure the edit in "Bluebird" is in the album version, not the long version. Do this if you have the software: On the album version, isolate the moment of silence just before the banjo kicks in near the end. Turn the volume up. You can hear the jarring first note of the "jam." (The "jam jar," as it were.) I think they must have recorded the song with the jam, which allowed that first note to print through to the previous layer of tape before the banjo part was edited on.

It's from an acetate, and is neither the mono LP nor the mono 45 version

Only slightly off topic, but can somebody fill me in on the song "Sell Out," which I only heard just recently. What year/session is it from, and any idea why NY left it off the Springfield box?

I'm surprised there hasn't been more interest in this - especially in the vinyl set. Only 5000 copies cut from original masters by Chris Bellman - mono and stereo versions!! This is what I have been waiting for, for the last 10 years or so - bring it on!

Frustrating this falls short of complete by missing a few mixes (of which the 45 mono mix of "Mr. Soul" is arguably the best one ever released), but I'm glad we're getting Buffalo Springfield Again when it didn't seem that long ago that some people were claiming it was a fold-down despite clear cut evidence of the contrary. (Forgot his name, but this included a guy who wrote a book on the band - when it was brought to his attention, he went on claiming there was no true mono mix. He was not Jimmy McDonough, that's for sure. )
