What's that weird cinematic 'look' to Mann's new film "Collateral"?

This looks like a great movie and the reviews are very solid so far. Hopefully I can catch it this weekend.

Has anyone seen the trailers in theaters? It looks moody, dirty and dark, but there's a strange something that I can't put my finger on. Sort of smeary, like it was shot on video and transfered to film (not sure if it is a digital video shoot or not). Other HD productions don't have that sort of look.

Anyone else notice it? Any ideas?

Michael Mann used digital cameras instead of film for this one.
