Geez, I had to carefully scroll through iTunes to see who qualified. I came to most bands I love well after they started, but 1986 seems to be it.

Street Lethal from Racer X would be the first debut album I bought when it actually came out.

I was sucker for a lot of those Shrapnel titles back in the day when I thought there was still a hope in hades that I might actually be able to learn to play guitar like that.

There's only one choice that's the correct answer.

Did you read the first post? It didn't ask which ones might have been the first one you bought,
it is which one is it.

i find it odd, you're busting on other people, when you did the exact same
    thing yourself.

I'm pretty sure it was Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers S/T
My sister actually had the 8-track when it was released, but I took over it then bought the LP for myself a few months before "You're Gonna Get It" came out.
I love most of what Petty did, but the first 2 albums have a big place in my heart.

Christmastime 1992: I picked up the cassette and rocked it on The Walkman.

    Yep, you guessed it - I'm a Gen X'er.

I think that would be Foster The People’s “Torches”. A great one!

    OT ALERT!

It IS truly amazing that about a quarter of replies here have multiple album titles.
I've always felt that a LOT here don't bother reading posts, or follow the intent of a thread like this.
Weird. I wonder if they're like that in their everyday lives......

I'd already been buying records for over a decade but near as I can tell, the first record I bought before the band had a second one out would be Treat Her Right's S/T debut

It was the debut album by The Stray Cats. It was a big thrill back then, and still is.

Went into discogs and found maybe 5 different albums that could've been the first debut album bought but then remembered I got a cassette copy of Bruce Hornsby and the Range - The Way It Is back in 1986 so I *think* that's my answer. But then I realized Bruce may have played keys on an Ambrosia album back in 1982 and also had a song in the animated movie "Twice Upon A Time" in 1983 so I guess he technically may have made an earlier album and my selection is invalid....

Led Zeppelin in 1969. The radio BBC Radio 1 DJ at the time described them as "the new Beatles".

I think the debut of The Pretenders.

Maybe that of The Police before, but am not 100 percent sure about that album

Seriously?!? Some people may not know EXACTLY which album was the FIRST debut album they bought but could narrow it down to one of a few choices. Is this thread for jerks with perfect memories or can everybody post their best guesses????
