I was in college at USC when this album was just released. We used to go up to Tower on Sunset and the Wherehouse on La Cienega on the way to Tower. This album was brand new / just released and since it was a debut by an unknown duo, it was on sale for about $2.50 or so. I bought it not knowing what it sounded like at all because it was cheap, I was a fan of Buffallo Springfield and Poco so I knew Jim Messina and I liked the album cover. Took it back to the dorms and was blown away by how good it sounded. Took a chance on a winnah! (I remember one of my friends - he mainly listened to soul music - saw it and laughed a "what an idiot" kind of laugh at me while he was showing it to one of the other guys. "Why'd you buy this!?")

Tough question, but I think it was a-ha: Hunting High and Low on cassette in 1985...

Fading memory and buying loads of new bands during NWOBHM makes this tough but I'm pretty sure it's Iron Maiden S/T.

I'm not sure, but it might have been Tubular Bells. And he had done a duet album with his sister (as "Sallyangie") a couple of years before.
It would have been Jesus Christ Superstar, but that was a Christmas gift I received, so I didn't technically buy it (Rice & Weber wrote Joseph earlier, but they didn't have a soundtrack until a year later).
The next "debut album" was 1979's The Roches, but Maggie and Terre had already done a duo album with Phil Ramone years earlier. That same year there was Robert Kraft and The Ivory Coast, but that was a radio station freebie.

So maybe it was 1968's Everything You Wanted To Hear On The Moog (But Were Afraid To Ask For) by the one-time duo of Andrew Kazdin and Thomas Z Shephard.

First debut album by a band with multiple releases that I bought in real time. I think I did this right.

So strict! I feel like I’m about to be punished before I even type a word!

LP wise it would probably be the self-titled album by Barry Blue in 1974. Yes, I know none of you will have heard of him.:)

CD would be Nik Kershaw’s Human Racing in August 1985.

I can't remember if Tubular Bells was bought for me or if I bought it myself so, that aside, we are looking at 1976 and either "Automatic Man" or Moon's "Too Close For Comfort". I know I got both of those in the late summer / early autumn and both just about qualify with two records a piece. The former because I was a huge Santana fan and the later because I saw them on a Saturday morning kid's tv show. Moon were a Pub Rock soul band in the same general vein as the Jess Roden Band. Noel McCalla later of Manfred Man was the singer.

I think it will be Inflatable Material by Stiff Little Fingers. I first thought it would be The Stranglers in 1977 but i think i first owned No More Heroes prior to Rattus Norvegicus which were both released in the same year.

It’s either Jamie T. Or Yeasayer. Both debut albums came out in 2007, but I have no idea what was first.

Btw: I might have forgotten others artiste from the 80s & 90s, though.

I'm pretty sure it was the Ben Folds Five debut in 1995.
