The River is my favorite album.
It turns 40 next month, and thought I'd ask this question. Right now, my favorite song from it is Fade Away.

The River. Followed by Independence Day.

In fact, it was The River that turned me onto Bruce.

Actually, I probably like the outtakes more than the proper album. But I'll go with "Point Blank" (though I love the outtake with the guitar solo).

Wow, I remember the hype when this came out. The local radio station (WDVE Pittsburgh) was sooooo jacked about this release and when it finally came out, they jumped on it. None of that just-play-the-lead-single crap for them; they were ALL OVER this mother: Hungry Heart, The Ties that Bind, Sherry Darling, Point Blank, Cadillac Ranch, Out in the Street, The title track...they spun em all, and the DJs sounded like they were wired on crank when they raved about it. When he rolled into town that fall, two shows sold out in milliseconds. As me and friends walked thru downtown Pittsburgh on our way to the Civic Arena the evening of the show, we met this older couple (probably in their early 20s, but older to US) who had driven in from Cleveland. We smoked a couple of joints with them and when we told them it was our first time seeing Bruce, they were pretty excited for us and told us we were in for a real treat. How right they were. Ah, memories!
