EWS has become a popular film for SK fans (and even some professional film reviewers, looking at your Mark Kermode,,,) to hate on, to portray it as a creative misfire from a director who otherwise had uncanny artistic instincts. I didn’t believe a word of it when I first saw it on DVD when released, and I still don’t.
I liked that one where he plays a really cocky, incredibly charming guy, who turns out to also be a real badass.
I liked the following. The Mission Impossible films are ok but for the life of me I can't remember the specifics of any of them... 2017 American Made 2014 Edge of Tomorrow 2013 Oblivion 2012 Jack Reacher 2005 War of the Worlds 2004 Collateral 2003 The Last Samurai 2002 Minority Report 1996 Jerry Maguire 1992 A Few Good Men 1988 Rain Man
Seen it in the cinema 1999. Think a lot of diehard SK fans thought it was a porn film, hence their distaste for it. Never been an admirer of the rock a billy musician/film critic myself!!!
Tom Cruise has made some great Hollywood films, and I admire his commitment to his craft, like doing many of his own stunts. I've seen most of his work, however, he's such a big star that I can never completely suspend disbelief and forget that I am watching Tom Cruise act in a movie. My favorite film is probably Oblivion, which is much maligned, but the soundtrack is fantastic, and Olga Kurylenko is very appealing.
I know plenty of people who rented EWS on DVD back in the day thinking it was a porn film and being bemused, disappointed and baffled at the film they did wind up seeing (those that didn’t turn it off midway through). And I’m not at all envious at your seeing EWS in the cinema. Not. At. All. I’ve seen 2001 twice at the cinema along with two screenings of The Shining (one theatrical, once extended). EWS, among with Barry Lyndon, seems to be the red headed stepchild of Kubrick’s filmography. And even BL saw a rerelease a couple of years back. I’m beyond excited that EWS is getting a November release for its 20th. It is my second favourite film, second only to Blade Runner (that I’ve seen entirely too many times at the cinema!)
I know my aunt and uncle walked out of Magnolia and demanded a refund. You can probably guess what part they found so offensive.
what? all of them every single one...I am a huge Tomfan...I love them all...that should do it. ; ) LOL...Mr. "What!?! is respected...
I usually see all the interesting films ( subjective) in the cinema when their first released. But I see what you mean .. not a Saturday evening full house cinema viewing.
