I wish they were issuing the remastered vinyl as a single album, I'd happily pay the current asking price for that, I won't ever play the second disc of remixes and live versions of the singles. I know it's got Looking For Love on it but otherwise I'm not interested in anything on it. I've ordered the single CD version but not decided on the vinyl. Would be good to see the packaging for it first.
It's funny, I was just wondering that tonight and planning on re-tagging my ripped files with the "'87" for both "Here I Go Again" and "Crying in the Rain". It looks cool that way and appropriate. I'm also going to re-tag the "Here I Go Again" "single remix" as "USA single version" or something like that because it's not a remix like they labeled it. It's a completely different recording with different musicians, although who exactly those musicians were differ based on Whitesnake biography I have vs the Greatest Hits 1994 comp liner credits.
If this is accurate, according to the Whitesnake biography, the following catalogue number had "Here I Go Again '87" added in 1987 "after it had been on the UK charts" and shares the same cat number as the original issue and as the original issue in the embossed sleeve: EMCX 3528.
Plus different musicians on it. The backing band for the US Remix is Dan Huff (of Giant) on guitar/lead guitar, Mark Andes (Heart, JoJo Gunne) on bass, and Denny Carmassi (Heart) on drums.
Probably because it was never issued as an official single. (It did get a promotional single release for radio, though.) Had it been, they likely would have changed it.
I may be miss-remembering, but the radio version of Here I Go Again I heard was always different from the actual album version. I ended up buying a (single, brit version, radio edit, I just can't remember) version to get that same song.
My guess, having not seen what the official track listing is yet for the vinyl, is that the original album will be expanded over 3 to 4 sides of the vinyl. The bonus content will either be on the album's fourth side, or, more likely, will be included as a bonus CD or digital download. That's how it's been with several similar such sets I've bought recently. In that case, you'd have no reason not to buy the new reissue.

Greatest Hits and Here I Go Again -The Whitesnake Collection list something a little different, no Mark Andes, but lists Bill Cuomo on keyboards and keyboard bass along with Dann and Denny. Also lists Tommy Funderburk on backing vocals. The 1989 book Whitesnake An Illustrated Biography lists Mark Andes on bass and Alan Pasqua on keys, Denny on drums and both Dann and Adrian on guitar. That had always made me think that Adrian came up with a different solo on that from the '87 album version (which was the only solo Sykes didn't do) but it seems going by the 2 comp album credits that Dann did all the guitars on the US radio version.
I've very familiar with Dan Huff's work. Around 1987, he was one of the most in demand session guitarists (along with Michael Landau, and Steve Lukather) on the scene. You can find his name on tons of albums.
It's the first listed lineup, but with Bill Cuomo on keys, as well. It's definitely Dan Huff doing all the guitars, particularly the solo. It's his style, not Adrian's. Tommy Funderburk is the high backing vocal on the track. David also completely re-recorded his vocal on this version, too. I can't find my 45 of it, but I'm pretty sure it listed the lineup on it.
I wonder if this release will finally clear up who plays guitar on the re-do of "Standing in the Shadow"? Both the original UK single and the Japanese EP credit it to Sykes, but the lead work at least is definitely not him. I've always thought it sounded like Vivian Campbell.
This is the original UK Vinyl Tracklist:- A1 Still Of The Night A2 Bad Boys A3 Give Me All Your Love A4 Looking For Love B1 Crying In The Rain B2 Is This Love B3 Straight From The Heart B4 Don't Turn Away B5 Children Of The Night This is the later UK version:- A1 Still Of The Night A2 Bad Boys A3 Give Me All Your Love A4 Looking For Love A5 Here I Go Again (USA Remix) B1 Crying In The Rain B2 Is This Love B3 Straight From The Heart B4 Dont Turn Away B5 Children Of The Night This is the UK CD and cassette:- 1 Still Of The Night 2 Bad Boys 3 Give Me All Yor Love 4 Looking For Love 5 Crying In The Rain 6 Is This Love 7 Straight For The Heart 8 Don't Turn Away 9 Children Of The Night 10 Here I Go Again 87 11 You're Gonna Break My Heart Again I think that was all that was released at the time in the UK.
The rest of the world seems to have had this tracklist on vinyl:- A1 Crying In The Rain A2 Bad Boys A3 Still Of The Night A4 Here I Go Again B1 Give Me All Your Love B2 Is This Love B3 Children Of The Night B4 Straight For The Heart B5 Don't Turn Away No 87 is listed after Here I Go Again but presumably it is that version.
Which is all based off the US release. Since Saints & Sinners was not released here until after the 1987 (or Whitesnake, as it was otherwise titled) album, it was felt there was no need to identify the song with "1987" after the title, as audiences here didn't know there was an earlier version of "Here I Go Again".
I actually really like how raw it is. The first part sounds like the two of them working on it in the kitchen
I have always found the US single version of Here I Go Again to be awful. Much prefer the more gritty album version. The other one is way to commercial sounding. You can actually here the Heart musicians influence. Awful I say...
As far as I can understand there will also be a single vinyl version available. I have the original UK version. Very interesting to hear how the remixes pans out and how the remastering sounds. It has never been the best sounding album. Kinda flat. Lacks dynamics and bottom end.
