Looks like the Donington 1990 set that recently went out of print makes a new remastered appearance here too.
Just stumbled on this in iTunes. Not exactly my favorite album, but I do love these boxes and they’re well done. Went ahead and clicked on that pre-order button. The end of the year is shaping up to be really expensive... Jethro Tull, Beatles, Whitesnake, Crimson (In The Court...), probable Pink Floyd, and who knows what other surprises lurk in the shadows of November and December? That sound you hear is my credit card starting to creak from the weight of all these boxes.
Whoa...credit where credits due, Coverdale is making these box sets essential. This is my least favourite 'Snake album but even I can't wait to get this. Wonder what the "Wagging Tongue" edition is. Never did like the Donnington footage though...I seem to recall it was very badly done, and you hardly ever saw all the band at one time, not any shots from the crowd. Could have easily have been a studio shoot.
According to Amazon.com: Slip of the Tongue: The Wagging Tongue Edition. Released exclusively on vinyl in 1989, it features Coverdale being interviewed about each track followed by the song.
Notably Disc 6 has a considerable amount of edits from the orginal 2cd/dvd set that was put out quite a few years ago - both Vai's solo tracks and Vandenbergs guitar showcases are edited out as is the 7 minute drum solo that segues from Crying In The Rain....
Finally we get to hear Coverdale's version of Burning Heart! Hoping there is a lot of Vandenburg on these demos. Also very interested in the 4 alternate mixes that close out disc 1 and the new Evolutions disc!
A monitor mix is generally a mix that is done quickly; so the artist or label can get a sense of how a song is going to turn out. This gives--say a label in this instance--a chance to hear a rough mix that can help them determine what the single is going to be, or if they are happy with the direction an artist is going in. So with these early mixes you may get alternate lyrics, different guitar parts, etc. as the song is probably unfinished.
It looks like the CD was cut down to a single disc length, but the DVD should have the full thing. Interesting and weird.
As mentioned, I’ve already pre-ordered, but what I wouldn’t give to have a similar box set for Coverdale/Page. Not sure there’s enough content to merit as many discs as have been in the recent Whitesnake boxes, but something in a deluxe form would be appreciated.
Sounds like it's just a feed from the video screens at the event? Although with WS's popularity at the time I'm surprised they didn't properly film any gigs from that tour.
Usually it’s the take the band wants to be the master without overdubs. Sometimes parts are very different as the band, producer, label, etc decide the song needs to be changed. If it’s ok then overdubs are usually added after that
There is enough for at least. 4cd and dvd set. Original mix and alternate mix. There was outtakes and leftovers and a live show could be added
I've posted about it in other threads but David has said the record company has approached him to do a Coverdale/Page remix and he said there are 4-5 songs that were never released...so a deluxe could be: Original album plus bonus tracks Remix album Demos/Rehearsals 2 CD live show from Japan
You’re right, there is some potential. I have Saccharine, Good Love and a couple of alt versions of the main songs. I had some bootlegs of the live shows which weren’t good quality, but who knows what either guy might have in their attics. I did see, though, that they were listed in the Universal fire loss, but not sure if that’s accurate or what the exact loss was.
Well the only sets I suspect they can do now is Coverdale Page and hopefully Restless Heart and Into The Light, although they might share a (Coverdale solo?) box set. I suspect that one will be next and Coverdale Page last
Years ago I read that DC wanted to do something with Into the Light, an album I really liked. It felt like a natural successor to his pre-Whitesnake solo albums. I was hoping at the time he would continue as just a solo artist and have the freedom to pull from his whole career when touring, and branch out a bit more on future albums. But, understandably from a financial angle, Whitesnake won out. Sorry for pulling this thread off track. Jumping back to SOTT... I really like Sweet Lady Luck! Should have been on the main album instead of Cheap ‘An Nasty or Slow Poke Music.
