Van Morrison Moondance shocked me with its brilliance. Stoned me, if you will. Loved it so much bought more of it. Veedon Fleece, St Dominic's Preview, Hard Nose the Highway and Common One should be shipping soon.
Swedish metal singer Matti Alfonzetti...what a voice! I've been busy picking up anything I can get my hands on.
That's such an awesome thing to seek out and listen to! Yeah, I have all those albums, including The Family. I went through those a few years back. As for my own current obsession, it's been everything Neil Young. I've been going through and listening to all of his albums, in order, and seeking out all non-album songs, rarities, etc. to fill out my collection. What a task! I'm even reading a couple of Neil Young books, which I've never done before to go along with the music. I feel another David Bowie obsession coming on, though.
Bonnie Raitt, and the following albums on my ipod and record player: Nick of Time Give It Up Takin' My Time Streetlights Homeplate Sweet Forgiveness The Glow Green Light Awesome guitarist and singer. I never really paid attention or listened to her previously. Phenomenal artist which I am glad to have discovered now.
I've been on a big Alice Cooper kick lately. Before that Peter Gabriel, The Beatles, and Bob Dylan each had their turn.
Pixies. I am un chien Andalusia! I am un chien Andalusia! I am un chien Andalusia! I am un chien Andalusia! Can't get this out of my head for weeks.
Yes, apparently during the recording process for that album he was going through a writer's block and creative dry spell. Whenever I listen to that album it amazes me that around that time he was at a creative standstill. It doesn't sound like that and I don't get that feel from it either. What I get from listening to it is that it does feel like he's in a more comfortable place. At that point in his career he had complete artistic freedom and he channeled that through this album. It's such a relaxing piece of work that flows together better than it's two predecessors. I love everything about it the doop wop style vocals, lush string arrangements, heavy muti-tracking,his contribution of background vocals, theme, etc.
I feel this coming on for me as well. Might have something to do with the impending change of seasons.
I was at a friend's house over the weekend and we were playing lots of vinyl. He has a nice mono copy of the first Moby Grape album - whoa did that sound great. One of my all-time favorites anyway (see avatar), but now I'm going to be revisiting it quite a bit over the next few months. The bass throughout was fantastic; Bob Mosley was a stud.
