A lot of the people posted here, like Lou Reed and Dylan, are IMO "put-on cool" out of their own insecurity. Even Hendrix by all accounts was a shy person off stage. Shy people are insecure. Keith Richards, on the other hand, comes off as someone who doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks, is completely at ease with himself, and therefore is the definition of cool. Cool is not a performance. It is a state of being. Keith is cool.

Keith is absolutely cool... it would be hard to argue against that. But in the matter of Dylan's "coolness" and particularly your definition of someone who doesn't give a damn about what anyone 'else' thinks... just look at Bob's musical career historically. Coolness is most importantly, I'd argue principally determined by what someone has done in their lives, throughout their lives... the choices made along the way. If you'd like I and probably the majority of the world could make a pretty damn long list of all the things Dylan's done over his lifetime without a thought of what others would think. And it ain't over yet. What'd you think of Bob turning to The American Songbook and then Triplicate(ing) down? Even those who aren't "fans" would have a list to submit. Let's just say both Bob and Keith... and Lou are pretty damn cool.

Dylan, 1965-1966. Consistently the coolest guy in the room, even amongst other superstars

    Agree to disagree.

Here is Dylan not being very cool. He is young and full of himself, cocky, condescending, arrogant, insulting and bullying. Not cool. He probably cringes (or ought to) seeing this footage of himself now. Lou Reed learned this same play-with-the-media trick from Dylan. Not cool; not original.

Dylan, as much as i love him....and i do big time....by all accounts is very difficult, introverted and weird....some would classify this as "uncool."

Got older, didn’t get fat, stayed around long enough to watch the money come back to him. I wouldn’t mind doing the same.
