Why doesn't anyone make an elegant tonearm lifter?

I use the Q-Up (current model) and while it might look like something cheap and plastic it's operation is simply excellent. It can be adjusted in a way so it's like a fluffy cloud lifting your tonearm extremely gently. I used on on y TD 166 as well, and it was a perfect match. So, unless it's a visual thing, the Q-Up works like a champ and is an excellent value.

    Is this elegant enough?

Yes. I will take two. One for everyday use and one as a back-up. ;)

I do love the simplicity of the Stylift. Surprised no one has brought that back into production yet. Seems like a great time to do so.

For the one who suggested a lift for the Technics SL-1200, I can recommend the following: Technics SL-1600 (fully automatic) or SL-1700 (Automatic Return) which offer automation, no clumsy lifter, elegant automation. And have comparable performance and ruggedness. And if you desire, the SL-1350 and SL-1650 with all the spindles allow you to load up 6, with very close performance.

What better way to "be in touch" with vinyl than lowering & raising the tonearm manually?

I bought a Q-up almost a year ago. It works perfectly. Very, very gentle.

That is what I'm taking about, but yes, it's expensive.

To all recommending a q-up, I actually have one, but it doesn't fit my table. I have a Music Hall 7.1 and the q-up is too tall to fit under the arm.

Yes, and it is a skill once learned, you just do. I handle manual tonearms better drunk and spastic than most do without either. I am so used to doing it that way.

A manual table is great. But so is taking naps while listening to records. So, you know...sometimes compromises have to be made. :)

The Q-up, as great as it may be, it just so ugly. The nice thing about that stylift was it's streamlined simplicity. It had some style.

And yea, a semiautomatic table is the way to go. I'll eventually add an automatic table just so I can have that nap/music room setup. :)

I recently bought one and love it! I'd say it qualifies as "elegant."

for those with a q-up...have any of you attempted to take it apart? I'm wondering if the actual lifting mechanism could be taken out and put into a nicer looking housing.
