Why on Earth hasn't "Delicate Sound of Thunder" been issued on DVD yet?

I'd heard, through You Tube, that Pink Floyd's 1988 concert "Delicate Sound of Thunder" has still yet to be issued on DVD..WHY NOT? It deserves to be!

Same reason it took them for-freaking-ever to put out PULSE on DVD.

    Whatever that was...

I was at Tower Video back in the late 90's and they had a small LD section. When I saw DSOT there, I grabbed it immediately! I missed the first chance I had getting it in the early 90's, I was not about to miss getting it this time.
It was one of the main reasons for me to get an LD player, that and LD set of Beatles Anthology. It's not the same as Pulse, but it has its own charms. For starters, the three backing singers, and the ending credits with the rotating time lapse camera during the show just to name two things.

I have understood that Gilmour doesn't like this period, and that's the reason it hasn't come out on dvd. I would love if the original footage was re-edited to a new version. (including Yet Another Movie, Welcome To The Machine, Money and Brick II at least, and without slow-mo)

Yes it could definitely do with a re-edit as it's pretty awful as it stands. I'd love that to be done with all the missing songs restored.

The Venice live tv broadcast was better IMO.

    Pretty sure it's SD video.

The finished edited version is, but the footage was shot on film. Thus, a new transfer and edit could definitely be HD. Plus, they could do a nice lossless 5.1 mix as well.

. . . and they could add the film shot at the Omni in Atlanta.*

Agree. The original DSOT is badly edited and has lots of slow motion effects and is extremely annoying to watch. They should remixe the audio and re-edit the film it for blu-ray (unlike PULSE, it was captured on film, not video).

Arent' Pulse and DSOT more or less the same thing?

    Just ignorance. Thanks in advance.

I guess so. Two different tours, some different songs and stage presentations. I like Delicate Sound better. I don't need to hear Dark Side played in its entirety, I'd rather hear other songs. I used to watch the Delicate Sound VHS over and over and over. I hope it gets a nice Blu-Ray release some day.

  18. do you want my copy? I don't watch it anyway

That is not a still from DSOT. It's just a photo from the tour.

Nah, that's just a bootleg (or semi-legal) DVD. I have it and yes, it hasn't dated very good at all. As i said before, it should be completely re-edited for blu-ray.

That said, i don't think the concert was filmed very well in the first place. And some of the scenes, like when the saxophone player walks up the stairs to the stage just before his solo on Dogs of War, was actually filmed during the soundcheck.

And the illuminated drumsticks footage is flown in from another song altogether iirc.

Yes, that's exactly right. Gilmour has no interest in re-releasing this whatsoever so it's unlikely that this will ever be reissued on DVD or Blu-ray.

P*U*L*S*E seems to be the definitive post-Waters representation of the band's live performances.
