I'm too young to have "been there," so to speak, but Zep II was a hot album. Might have sold well over six figures before the first pressing was withdrawn. You can write off a certain number 'cos they're trashed, or were simply thrown out, or whatever, but that should still leave thousands. Just because some people are willing to throw down $500+ for a nice copy doesn't mean there aren't good ones out there for not too much money, or even almost no money.
I've found two very enjoyable VG copies for under $20, I can definitely believe that VG+ ones are out there. I found a NM one that was behind the counter by being annoying and got it for an incredible price.
A few months after I found my first RL, I saw a Non-RL for the same price, $15 at a different store. Curiosity got the better of me, and I bought it just to see what the difference was. I couldn't believe how terrible it sounded. They ruined it. I got rid of it. I also have a mid 70's AT/GP that is very good, but the RL is superior. Both of mine are CTH 1A/1A double sided RL.
Most likely that someone is play a terrible trick on you and may have ruined your albums by scratching initials in them.. but I look forward to the pictures!!!
I wouldn't pay $400 for it. I've compared all the top presses of this album and is the RL the best sounding? Absolutely Is it that much better than the 2nd best? Absolutely not.
Me too. Something that rare should be shared with this forum. Maybe the only copies in existence, especially in mint unplayed condition.
He bought them all on day one, to just never play them, keep them in mint condition, tease us 50 years later and THEN disappear.
We are anxiously awaiting your pics of your Led Zeppelin I, II, and III with RL in the wax @audiomixer
When the 48-disc Led Zeppelin Classic Records 45 rpm box, I think the original price in the US was $800. Now, THAT was a bargain.
I've never heard any of the LZ 45rpm Classics...….I wonder how different they are from the 180 gram and 200 gram 33's.
I think I'm glad I missed the whole life cycle of Classic Records. I was happy to track down awesome original Zeppelin records and if I spent a bunch on those reissues I might not have done that. 45 RPM though... Right now I'm hunting Stone Temple Pilots promo 45 RPM EPs. The two I have so far absolutely STOMP the CDs and vinyl reissues. I'd love to hear some Zep with that kind of high octane rocket fuel powering the music.
