Would you pay $800 for a mint copy of the RL Led Zeppelin II?

No, but I would for the 45 rpm Classic Records, single sided 4 disc set

Good point, but I was thinking more along the lines of "What does $800 sound/taste like?" when all you've got are those ears/taste buds. Now if you're buying it as an investment, now that's another story.

I think he is scared to tell us if he got it cause a lot of people dont understand why someone would pay that much.....

Me being a collector of GOOD THINGS might pay that much im not sure BUT I DO UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEONE WOULD!!!

I would have to respond, that theoretically speaking if I did purchase it....it would be as an investment. While I see the bubble of low to mid range priced vinyl bursting eventually, the high end stuff will always have value.

I wouldn't, but there are probably enthusiasts that have invested 100k€/$ in their exclusive vinyl rig with preamps, tube stages, high end turntables that might. In that sense I think there's a market if these copies can actually be found in Mint condition.

No, I wouldn't, because I paid $2 for VG - VG+ copy about four years ago. I consider it a much better deal, besides Led Zeppelin is not one of my favorite bands by far.

I would rather use that 800 bucks as part of upgrading my sound system so the needledrop of the RL LZII I have would sound even better lol

Right. Technically vinyl cannot be mint unless it is sealed, you are right (is there any way to know it is and "RL" pressing without opening it?. Opened, but "perfect" is always NM, near mint, no matter how perfect. And a record sealed for 50 years can sound like crap...a lot goes on inside that cover after 5 decades, even sealed.

  17. I will wait until it's reissued on RSD. It's worth $25 to me just to hear a different mix. The mix on my original USA copy is not very good. I'm sure the original UK issue is much better. Nevertheless, I'd rather have an original Santa Dog any day or a signed anything by Daniel Johnston or the The Shaggs.

A different "mix"? On the "RL"??

Jimmy Mac Zooropa... better by design

I think we’ll agree he meant different mastering ;)

More importantly is this something really slated for a RSD release???

Wishful thinking? Is the RL vinyl that much better, audio-wise, or just a rarity for rarity's sake.

But if we're wishing, wouldn't we rather wish for a Led Zep II 180 gram vinyl RSD release, newly remastered by the likes of Hoffman or Grundman?!

    I'm just sayin'...

Only if I was 100% sure I could flip it. It's my second least favorite LZ album, and I wouldn't pay anywhere near that amount for any album unless I was making a profit off of it.

I would pay more for an acetate or very rare stuff but not for this.
However if I had plenty plenty money I maybe would out of curiosity.

I just have the German one-sided RL LP (which thankfully is the side with Whole Lotta Love on it), which I got for €10. I have compared ...

    an original UK pressing
    a George Piros US pressing
    A Classic Records pressing
    1990s boxset version
    2014 reissue pressing

And to these ears the RL version beats every one of them by a country mile.

The big question is would I pay $800 for an RL, absolutely not! I actually saw a very clean RL copy going for €100 and I passed. Me personally, I don't need a record that bad that I will pay above the odds for it. I certainly won't criticize or ridicule anyone who does want to pay above the odds, but it is not where my head is!

    JG

PS: I actually have two copies of the German RL one-sided copy!

Better Records has what appears to be a VG+ white-hot stamper for $799.99.

    Save a penny.

As I mentioned in my post above, I have a one-sided German RL pressing, does that mean I should ask for $400 for my copy?:biglaugh:
