I'm thinking of picking up some early X albums on CD. What sounds better, the remasters or the older CD's?

X came up in the L.A. punk scene of the late 70's, early 80's. You can see them in Penelope Spheeris's "The Decline of Western Civilization," a classic documentary of that whole scene.

Initially produced by Ray Manzarek of the Doors, they became more ecletic as the years went by, adding country/rockabilly touches to their music (they even covered "Breathless" on one album). Their earlier stuff is more punk, their later stuff is a bit more "pop" or mainstream, if you can call it that.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the Japanese "X" who later became X-Japan.

That would've been a sign of the apocalypse for this board, I think.

    Matt,

Their stuff was recorded very well if I remember. Do you have a turntable? The original vinyl would be the way to go. If not, the first versions on CD sounded pretty good, but I have not heard the latest remasters. If they shaved off all the dynamics it would be a darn shame.

The new remasters do have some things going for them (I bought them all). They have lyrics and bonus tracks.
