“You Won’t Be Alone” folk horror movie

From 2022, You Won’t Be Alone is an Australian movie filmed in Serbia and set in a 19th century Macedonian mountain village afflicted by a centuries old Volkojatka Maria, a sort of witch. The witch takes a girl Nevena raised in near total isolation and releases her into the outside world where Maria soon transforms Nevena into a witch. Nevena struggles to make sense of nature, the villagers and her own preternatural abilities.

Although a wide range of issues are addressed, they are portrayed at a near leisurely pace often without dialogue. The cinematography is exceptionally beautiful and even soothing at times making for a literally haunting, lyrical film, one of my recent favorites.

The language is Macedonian, and the version I saw had English subtitles.
