What would be your dream Let it Be single LP? I guess mine is the existing one but with a longer version of Dig It. And even though I don’t like Don’t Let Me Down I guess it would have to go somewhere on side 2.
Don't Let Me Down deserves a place. One of my favorite Beatles tunes. Mine would no doubt be a hybrid of different mixes, as I'm actually a big fan of Spector's handiwork on The Long and Winding Road as an example, the title track from Past Masters as it has the superior solo to my ears etc etc.
I have learned to love the Spector version. Seen in retrospect what he had been given to work with, in terms of source material, Lennon was right, when he said it was ‘lousy’ and that Spector made something worthwhile out of it. However, the tracklisting has always bothered me a little and Don’t Let Me Down could have been included in an alternate version. I have sometimes toyed with a ‘live’ side and a ‘studio’ side: Side 1 - Live: 1. One After 909 2. Dig A Pony 3. I’ve Got A Feeling 4. Don’t Let Me Down 5. Get Back Side 2: 1. For You Blue 2. Two Of Us 3. The Long And Winding Road 4. Across The Universe 5. I Me Mine 6. Let It Be
THE BEATLES - GET BACK (April 1969) Side one 1. One After 909 - Rooftop performance 2. Dig a Pony - unedited Rooftop performance 3. I've Got a Feeling - composite of both Rooftop performances 4. Don't Let Me Down - single version 5. Old Brown Shoe - single version 6. Get Back - single version Side two 1. Two of Us - master take from the 31st 2. For You Blue - master take from the 25th, no overdubs 3. Can You Dig It? - unedited version 4. Let it Be - take 28 from the 31st, no overdubs 5. Across the Universe - guitar and vocals only mix 6. The Long and Winding Road - master take from the 31st Apparently they actually considered "Dig It" a song they were working on and not some random jam, so that's why I'll keep it. That's also why "Maggie Mae" and "Save the Last Dance for Me" get the boot, though. When inspecting the Get Back sessions, you see that the band actually worked much more on "Old Brown Shoe" than on "I Me Mine", so that's why I'll be swapping them both. The fact that "I Me Mine" was recorded a whole year after the sessions and "Old Brown Shoe" was only recorded a couple of months after them also helps. Since they worked on "Across the Universe" a lot during the sessions but never got around to recording a master take, we'll use the February 1968 version instead. "Can You Dig It?" is the four minute version from the Glyn Johns mixes, and "The Long and Winding Road" is the superior movie version from the 31st, as compared to the weaker album version from the 26th.
Yeah, it had Green Onions, Iron Man and Pretty Vacant on it. It was a weird dream. I think I prefer the originally released version of the album.
Two of Us Dig a Pony Across the Universe Old Brown Shoe Let It Be I Me Mine I Got a Feeling One After 909 The Long and Winding Road For You Blue Don't Let Me Down Get Back (with coda)
I would release three singles with Let It Be, Two Of Us ,Get Back ,I Got a Feeling,The Long and Winding road ,You know My Name The rest I would include in the film (complete finals not cut up like Get It back)
side 1: "I Will Dare" "Favorite Thing" "We're Coming Out" "Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out" "Androgynous" "Black Diamond" side 2: "Unsatisfied" "Seen Your Video" "Gary's Got a Boner" "Sixteen Blue" "Answering Machine"
Any "dream" version of "Let it Be" would -- for me -- have to include a version of "All Things Must Pass." I have a decent complete version of that song from the sessions that sounds pretty good when John, Paul and George all vocalize together on it.
We already have it - Let it Be Naked . Have never listened to the original album since. The 2 weakest albums in the catalogue were always Yellow Submarine and Let it Be but thankfully with Songtrack and Naked those issues were fixed and everything is perfect.
Have to say, I'm impressed by the good humor of our friends the Beatles fans (who sometimes get a bad rap on the forum). I intended my post as a light-hearted tweak, and instead of getting irritated responses, I got a few likes. Carry on, fellas. I realize the first Let It Be is pretty good too.
I’d like it as it is, plus Don’t Let Me Down, and devoid of John’s spoken bits which have palled over the decades.
I have been struggling with what is a simple question ever since the Thread below. I think your choices are now expanded with the anniversary edition being released. I like both the Get Back LP and Let It Be for different reasons. I come up with a couple ideas. Many complain that Let It Be .. Naked had too much NR and that it was lifeless. Aside from some various edits, etc i'd like to suggest a new Naked if you will Get Back Let It Be version (Edit - the pre song chatter and coda removed) Dig A Pony The original Let It Be take For You Blue The original Let It Be take The Long And Winding Road - We now have Take 19 on the SDE to use Two Of Us The original Let It Be take, minus the Pygmy part I've Got A Feeling The original Let It Be take One After 909 The original Let It Be take Don't Let Me Down We can use either the SP version from SDE (or the rooftop if you prefer) I Me Mine The GJ version from SDE or Anth 3 version Across The Universe Anth 2 version or Take 6 from TWA SDE Let It Be Take 28 approximates the version with the guitar solo used (to avoid making edits) Another one I'd like to try is from the Peter Jackson interview on TWST podcast #355 On Jan 29, John is singing titles from a list. Try that one as he suggested. and include the items crossed off I believe it is around the 1:14:00 mark in the film. I'll post this later. And for other ideas see this The Ideal Let It Be
