Haha, I was noticing the love for Folklore in another thread, which doesn't do it for me. But I love love love 1989. And Avril, especially Goodbye Lullaby. From a classic rock/ jazz fan. Go ahead, rip me to shreds, I Don't Care ... I Love It!!!
The original post said “A (singular) female artist” but one of my favorite albums, hell, one of my favorite SOUNDS is these three voices blended together!
Joni - Ladies Of The Canyon. There's a whole back story to this, which started in 1972. Suffice to say I was introduced to this album by a lady who quickly broadened my musical (and other) horizons over that summer.

Suzanne Vega has been mentioned a couple of times. On its release her debut was an absolute favourite of mine. It still is...and every song is brilliant. Lost none of its power.
A lot of nice ones already mentioned in this thread. Overall it’s still hard to beat Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love or Joni Mitchell’s Court And Spark. From “recent” years I’m really fond of Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black and the gem below, Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer.
Blue --- Joni Mitchell Songbird --- Eva Cassidy Linda Ronstadt --- Mad Love Also love Karen Carpenter, Julie London, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington among many other female artists.
Laura Gibson has put out three in a row that were all really great: La Grande, Empire Builder, Goners Kim Gordon -no Home Record Beach House - Teen Dream, Bloom, Depression Cherry, TYLS, or 7
