Tough to pick just one, great year... I'd probably say Springsteen's 'The River.' Rush's 'Permanent Waves' a close second...

My LP cover for Hall & Oates Voices was different than that one above. Good choices here.

A great list. Many are in my Top 20 too. I agree it was one of the best years and varied in a why I don't think we'll see the likes of again. I'm always surprised Hazel O'Connor's Breaking Glass gets missed by UK based forum members; it's my # 1 that year by a mile.

    michanes oh yeah

'79, I think. Gang of Four's Yellow EP came out in '80, which I nominate (not all the way through thread yet)

I was only six in 1980 but I remember Eighth Day and my auntie having the LP, which she still has. It was definitely big at the time and almost forgotten now. I never hear Hazel O Connor mentioned anywhere. I've never heard it.

This was my late-Junior/early-Senior year in High School...

Rush - Permanent Waves (hands-down winner)

XTC - Black Sea (one "New-Wave" record that I've never outgrown)

The Residents - Commercial Album (a mind-blowing record that sent me off into a whole different trajectory)

Minutemen - Paranoid Time (ditto my reaction to the Commercial Album)

There were, of course, countless others... these are just the ones that come to mind at the moment.
