This isn't a great year for my collection. I might have to look over this thread to see if I missed anything.

 

If I had continued buying new music after 2005, I’m pretty sure I would own Old 97’s Blame It On Gravity. Solid album.

 

I wondered when it was the music stopped for me. Turns out it was 2007. I don't have a thing for 2008. It's going to be interesting to see what others come up with.

I felt right at home with the garage revival of the late 1990s and most of the 2000s, that really ended with the final "White Stripes" album. I was doing a lot of work this year, could it be I missed a lot of good stuff? I've just started buying new music again after nearly a decade break.

 

Good lord! This was the year I started to get really excited about music again.

Yea, that was one of the big standounts, great record, especially when paired with Weird Era Cont... Cool and woozy psych pop tunes from Deerhunter on the new Microcastle

Another big one for me is Shearwater Rook, incredible record, one of my favorites still ... Incredible new record from Shearwater

And there was Wovenhand too ... Wovenhand - Ten Stones (some pretty amazing new music)

And the Dodos with Visiter, looks like I made quite a few threads in 2008, though not many replies back then ... Dodos "Visiter", one of the best of 2008

And Radar Bros. Auditorium, I've always had a soft spot for these guys, their And the Surrounding Mountains being one of my favorites from last decade. Kind of an autumn mix of early Pink Floyd (post Syd) and Neil Young. No thread on this one.

And the always amazing Hector Zazou & Swara, In the House of Mirrors, a brilliant reinterpretation of classical Asian music. The album was recorded in Mumbai, with Toir Kuziyev (tambur & oud), Milind Raykar (violin), Ronu Majumdar (flute) and Manish Pingle (Indian slide guitar), enhanced even further with Zazou's subtle reprocessing techniques. Other special guests include percussionist Bill Rieflin and Norwegian trumpet player Nils Petter Molvaer. Zazou's final record, released a few weeks after he died, very nice remembrance.
