You don't have to post a big list all at once. Just add some favorite tunes/pieces whenever you think of them.

Since we have a lot of audiophiles on the board, feel free to recommend some of your favorite recordings of the music you list.

During the 1840s, Robert Schumann was at the peak of his powers. In 1842 he invented a new form of chamber music: the piano quintet (i.e. piano plus string quartet). His Op. 44 in E flat major is here performed by living legend Martha Argerich on piano:

Between 1846 and 1848 Richard Wagner composed his opera Lohengrin, of which the prelude of the third act, followed by the "Bridal Chorus" or "Wedding March" are the most famous parts. Here performed by Janos Kovacs with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir:

Hector Berlioz - Grande symphonie funèbre et triomphale, Op. 15 (1840)

Essentially Berlioz' "Symphony No. 4" (of only 4 that he wrote)
