Beale Street Sheiks (Frank Stokes & Dan Sane) - Mr. Crump Don't Like It

Blues as political commentary. Edward Hull "Boss" Crump (1874-1954) was the mayor of Memphis, Tennessee, between 1910 and 1915. The song is about Crump’s continued influence over political appointments.

Bela Bartok - String Quartet No. 3 composed September 1927
I'm not much of a classical music buff but I do like Bartok's string quartets.

Before the blind Dick Burnett (banjoist) bought a car, he and Rutherford walked or rode a horse drawn cart to perform on courthouse lawns near Wayne County, Kentucky. The music historian Charles K. Wolfe reproduced two "ballets" in his book Tennessee Strings. The ballets were cards with song lyrics about the size of playing cards. Burnett sold them for a penny or nickel to supplement tips. That was their income except for the basic payment for each side recorded. When a young man, Burnett was shot in the face during a robbery, making him one of several blind musicians at the dawn of country music.

Another vote for Blind Willie Johnson. He recorded 6 songs in December 1927 including Nobody’s Fault But Mine and Motherless Children - later remade by Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton respectively. But this track is the deepest, and my favourite:
