Sacrilege on SHTV perhaps, but there are some albums that absolutely transcend fidelity. I'm thinking of the Charlie Parker Dial Sessions, and My Morning Jacket's demos. List them here...
Here are a handful I quite like: The Sonics - Here Are The Sonics The Sonics - Boom The Tornados - Telstar Link Wray and His Raymen -- Jack The Ripper
Lo-fi is my favorite genre, if it can be considered a genre. I could easily list 100+ great albums, but I'll just mention one: Pavement- Westing (By Musket and Sextant) It's a collection of early Pavement EPs, singles, and outtakes. Essential stuff, in my humble opinion. Noisy guitars + cool melodies + cruddy lo-fi recording quality = brilliance
I love lo - fi. Here’s 2. I might post more …… Marine Girls : Beach Party. Recorded in a shed I believe. Marine Girls : Lazy Ways. Slightly better but still lo…….
Dozens of songs By Half Japanese. Like Jonathan Richman, Jad Fair just captured SOMETHING about life in his songs and what he captured just didn't seem to need much fidelity to get through to me. Charmed Life, and The Band that would be King are both among my top 25 records from the 1980s.
