well, this probably doesn't count, but i was collecting all the flock of seagulls 7 inches, and i found there was a 10 pack of them issued awhile ago. i never saw it come up, but then on discogs it appeared. there's nothing 'special' about the singles, in that they are they just the standard releases put into a plastic sleeve with a sticker on it. they also had one for 12 inches too. but i still like official compilations. https://www.discogs.com/A-Flock-Of-Seagulls-The-Singles/release/614199 A Flock Of Seagulls – The Singles Label: Jive – afos 1 Format: Box Set, Compilation, Limited Edition 10 × Vinyl, 7", 45 RPM, Single Country: UK Released: Jun 1985 Genre: Electronic Style: New Wave, Synth-pop TracklistShow Credits A Telecommunication B Intro C1 Modern Love Is Automatic 4:00 C2 D.N.A. 2:30 D1 Windows 3:28 D2 You Can Run 4:28 E I Ran F Pick Me Up G Space Age Love Song H Windows I Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) 4:00 J Committed 2:50 K Nightmares L Rosenmontag M Transfer Affection 4:05 N I Ran (Recorded Live In Concert - London) 5:15 O (It's Not Me) Talking P Tanglimara Q The More You Live, The More You Love 4:10 R Lost Control 4:09 S Never Again (The Dancer) 3:42 T Living In Heaven 5:30 Total Time: 48:07 i've even made my own arts and crafts version, with 10 cd3 singles, and transferring them and the artwork to my own project. later -1
Thanks for alerting me to this! Looks like several copies have been sold for prices I’d have been willing to pay since you made this post... currently the only copy is in Japan for £200 though!
Ryan Adams Rock and Roll...Had it my hand at my local for 18 bucks when it came out...Put it back for some stupid reason...Now goes for ridiculous prices..
every once in awhile you find something that makes you do a doubletake, or check your eyesight. i thought i had every major 12 inch and promo from 'kissing the pink' when i went through my collecting phase for them. i had checked the website for fans, double checked their discography and was happy. then, i was checking, discogs, and found a curious promo that i had never seen, never heard of, and didn't know existed. fortunately there was 1 copy for sale, and it was cheap. so i instantly bought it. the best part, was that it had an unreleased mix that has never been known about, until this release. https://www.discogs.com/KTP-I-Wont-Wait/release/6284414 KTP* – I Won't Wait Label: Magnet (2) – 12 KTP 003 Format: Vinyl, 12", 45 RPM, Promo Country: UK Released: 1986 Genre: Electronic Style: House, Synth-pop Tracklist A1 I Won't Wait (Vocal House Mix) 4:53 A2 I Won't Wait (Instrumental House Mix) 5:45 B1 No One's On The Same Side (Vocal House Mix) 5:06 B2 No One's On The Same Side (Instrumental House Mix) 5:40 Total Time: 21:24 really happy when i got this, and added it to the collection. later -1
Would the India pressing feature that super thick cardboard cover that I saw with the cover for the original pressing from India for Aftermath by The Rolling Stones?
So far I like the Black Grass album the best of all the holy grails listed here so far. The Chantal Kelly record looks great too. For me, it would be an upgrade to this album, and it would have to be the original Cuban pressing in Excellent condition or even VG+. My copy looks and plays like a hockey puck. This is a great album to play when a Pineapple Express weather system showers its warm, sweaty breath my way.
Negative Approach S/T 7” The last sold on Discog’s went for $3700. Maybe if I win the lottery some day.....
If anybody knows where the Pastor T.L. Barrett Like a Ship reissue can be found for a reasonable price, please PM me.
I had forgotten about this post tho since I saw a new like reading it I am chiming in on more info I found out about this record. A person who is a forum member told me about this record and when an where it was signed as they told me the band was in a Wherehouse Records in the town I been living and same town as the record fair swap that I got this at. I can't remember how or where we started talking about this (thread or pm) but I was thankful of his help and knowledge of this as it would be one thing to date the signatures but from where is another story. Story was a in person band signing at that record stores promoting the album as well as being in town that week for playing, and he attended both and told me the place as well as year and it was upon release, and I knew and had shopped at the said Wherehouse Records. It was also documented in a flyer, so it is authentic. Before I knew that I could still easily see that these were real (looking at early pen signatures and Dee Dee's D's never changed nor did Johnny's J) and old signed because of pen and the albums second press (same as release) pulled Carbona not Glue, Just an update to this post I forgot. Cheers
I was travelling in the car with my family in Michigan when I was still in my teens in the late 70's. I really liked Jonathan Richman at the time, and I think by then I even had that first Modern Lovers album but on Beserkely. We pulled off the freeway and stopped for gas in Saginaw. There was a small record store across the street, so I ran over. They had this album in the cut-out bin for $2.99 (cut corner). I still have it. I don't think I've ever seen another copy of it on that label.
i generally go through bands discographies, to figure out the albums i need. but again, there is sometimes confusion about when something is released and what it is. for a 'flock of seagulls', i had the regular 12 inch of 'never again the dancer', and while it was a cool radical remix, it was mostly instrumental, so it was kind of disappointing given the song had great lyrics. well 30 years later, via youtube there was another remix of the song, and it had vocals. after doing some research on discogs, it turns out there was a limited edition 12 inch with an alternate mix out. so now i had it to track it down, and i did manage to find a copy that was right. i tried to buy another copy for a friend, but ended up getting a wrong version. (they all have the same catalog number). Notes Issued with the exact same labels and picture sleeve as the original 12" single but with two identifying differences : A circular sticker on the front of the sleeve : Special Limited Edition 12" Re-Mix JIVE T 78, and the Side A run out groove inscription : JIVE T 78 A2 Duration for Side A incorrectly shown on label as 5.12 which is the timing for the original version, not the Re-Mix https://www.discogs.com/A-Flock-Of-Seagulls-Never-Again-The-Dancer-12-Re-Mix/release/1895457 A Flock Of Seagulls – Never Again (The Dancer) (12" Re-Mix) Label: Jive – JIVE T 78 Format: Vinyl, 12", 45 RPM, Single, Limited Edition Country: UK Released: 1984 Genre: Electronic, Pop Style: Synth-pop Tracklist A Never Again (The Dancer) (Dance Mix) 7:40 B1 Living In Heaven 5:30 B2 Never Again (The Dancer) (7" Version) 3:42 Total Time: 16:52 it came out on cd much later on a rarities compilation. later -1
Good luck on the hunt , too many variables have kept me at bay. DAT recording/Sony One I'd like for collection reasons though as I love this band!
kraftwerk, could go on for days with the cool exclusives and grails from them. here's one of mine, the french pocket calculator - mini calculateur sung in french https://www.discogs.com/Kraftwerk-Mini-Calculateur/release/686783 Kraftwerk – Mini Calculateur Label: EMI – 2C 008 64369 Format: Vinyl, 7", 45 RPM Country: France Released: 1981 Genre: Electronic Style: Synth-pop Tracklist A Mini Calculateur 4:27 B Dentaku 4:32 Total Time: 8:59 There is also a 12 inch version, which i also got a few months ago. later -1
I just picked up a grail. A NM UK stereo Revolver with "Dr." on the label. Very hard to find. I am very excited to finally own one. I bought it from Andrew at Parlogram, so you know it wasn't cheap. But I'm happy.
i really enjoyed the scritti politti perfect way single, and got several different releases and mixes. however, i did not know that the US 12 inch promo had an extra long remix that was exclusive to it, and was happy to pick it up for very cheap. https://www.discogs.com/Scritti-Politti-Perfect-Way/release/1010925 Scritti Politti – Perfect Way Label: Warner Bros. i've got a lot of Canadian releases from 1970s-1980, but moved around after that. From then on most of my domestic releases were american, however, in the last few decades, i've started buying Canadian 7 and 12 releases along with everyone for my groups. sometimes they get the UK mixes, and other rare things. so for tears for fears, when they released mothers talk, they had this limited release that i didn't know about until many years later: https://www.discogs.com/Tears-For-Fears-Mothers-Talk/release/1709413 Tears For Fears – Mothers Talk Label: Vertigo – TFF 1 Format: Vinyl, 12", Limited Edition Country: Canada Released: 1984 Genre: Electronic, Rock Style: Pop Rock, Synth-pop TracklistShow Credits This Side A1 Mothers Talk (Short Version) 3:53 A2 The Way You Are 7:44 That Side B1 The Beat Of The Drum 8:56 B2 The Marauders 4:16 B3 Mothers Talk (Long Version) 6:14 Total Time: 31:03 This is the single sleeve version, there's a gatefold too. later -1
i mentioned i love the flock of the seagulls, this is one of their last 2 twelve inches they ever released. there is another one called 'burnin up', and the one copy on discogs i tried to buy was missing according to the seller, so i'm still looking. https://www.discogs.com/A-Flock-Of-Seagulls-Magic/release/711023 A Flock Of Seagulls – Magic Label: GNP Crescendo – GNPS 1208 Format: Vinyl, 12", Maxi-Single Country: US Released: 1989 Genre: Electronic Style: Synth-pop TracklistShow Credits A1 Magic (Radio Mix) 4:11 A2 Magic (Extended Radio Mix) 5:43 B1 Magic (Dance With Vocal) 7:58 B2 Magic (Dance Instrumental) 6:16 Total Time: 24:08 and the song was pretty decent too. later -1
back in 1979, the human league were doing well, they had 2 albums out, but a change was coming, as a few members were about to leave, and split up into heaven 17. well, while this was going on, a side project came out, but was announced as such. it was the men - i don't depend on you, foreshadowing the massive hit, dont you want me.. https://www.discogs.com/The-Men-I-Dont-Depend-On-You/release/583463 The Men – I Don't Depend On You Label: Virgin – VS 26912 Format: Vinyl, 12", 45 RPM, Single Country: UK Released: Jul 1979 Genre: Electronic, Funk / Soul Style: Disco, Funk Tracklist A I Don't Depend On You 4:31 B Cruel (Instrumental) 4:41 Total Time: 9:12 again, i didn't find out about it until much later, and hunted down a copy, for some reason the 7 inch goes for more, but i'll get that too eventually. later -1
here's another early record from 1979, before the british band the Fixx became successful in the US, they were known as the portraits, and this is their first release on 7 inch, and its red vinyl https://www.discogs.com/Portraits-Little-Women/release/3301050 Portraits – Little Women Label: Ariola – ARO 194 Format: Vinyl, 7", 45 RPM, Single, Red Country: UK Released: 1979 Genre: Rock Style: New Wave, Power Pop Tracklist Other Side A Little Women This Side B Easy later -1
I’ve bought the European ‘murder’ version when it came out, but I’ve passed on the US version when I saw it in a Berlin record store for 18 euros or so, because ‘I already have this record’. It indeed goes for extreme prices, even though the record is of low quality. My holy grail was the MoFi release of Adams’ Love is Hell. Never got round to it to buy it online, but when I stumbled on it in a record store, I dropped everything and bought it. Fantastic release! Currently on top of my list is III/IV by Ryan Adams & The Cardinals. The only record of him I don’t own on vinyl. Backed out of ordering it online when it came out. As an import record it was quite expensive. Only saw when copy in the wild in Cologne for 125 or 150 euros.
