No love for EC and Winwood live at MSG? EC at his finest, and video presentation is sublime.

I'm sure I'm missing some great videos but here's 10 that I continue to enjoy:

    - David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1973) [DVD]
Ziggy's swan song recorded by D.A. Pennebaker. May not be Bowie's best concert video but certainly one of the most historic.

    - Various Artists - Live Aid (1985) [DVD]
We may never see the complete concert on DVD but even at ten hours it's an impressive document of it's time. People can quibble over the omissions or the performances or the audio or the video but you can't beat the nostalgia factor.

    - Sting - Bring on the Night (1985) [DVD / BR]
Documenting the formation of Sting's solo band and first tour it may not strictly be a live concert but it's still one of my favorites.

    - U2 - Rattle and Hum (1988) [DVD / BR]
Another rockumentary but the various live performances make for a pretty powerful movie. Saw this one the week it was in theaters back in '88 and remember being blown away by the sound.

    - Roy Orbison and Friends - Black and White Night (1987) [DVD / BR]
A beautifully shot concert video with a who's who of celebrities respectfully backing him up (TCB band, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Lyle Lovett, Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt & K.D. Lang among others).

    - Various Artists - Knebworth '90 (1990) [DVD / BR]
Another sentimental pick, with 3+ hours of great performances from Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Status Quo, Genesis & Phil Collins, Robert Plant & Jimmy Page, Cliff Richard & The Shadows, Dire Straits and Tears for Fears.

    - David Byrne - Between the Teeth (1992) [VHS / Laserdisc]
Maybe the ugly stepchild of Stop Making Sense, it's the sound of David Byrne having fun trying to re-invent himself.

    - Crowded House - Farewell to the World (1996) [VHS / DVD]
Crowded House's initial swan song. Always a great band live you can feel the added weight of it being their last time together.

    - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Live at Soundstage (2003) [DVD / BR]
Lots of covers sprinkled with a few hits / rarities with a top-notch band and amazing presentation makes this one a must see.

    - Bruce Springsteen - Live in Dublin (2006) [DVD / BR]
There's a ton of live Bruce DVD's out there but not many more fun than this one with it's mix of American folk music and reworkings of classic tunes.

I can't believe that three others of my favorites didn't come to my mind earlier today, must have been distracted with work. Anyway, these three DVDs definitely deserve to round out my full ten list:
Carl Perkins and Friends - Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session
Eric Johnson - Live From Austin, TX 1988
Eric Johnson - Live From Austin, TX 1984

I will try to submit my List this weekend, but 'Stop Making Sense' will mosdef be #1 on my List of Blu-Ray/DVD Concerts(first bought the DVD than bought the Blu-Ray when it was released).

I did not realize that 'Under a Blood Red Sky' was released on Video(Blu-Ray or DVD), as thought it was only an Audio release.

The Under a Blood Red Sky album comes from a few different concerts. The video is all from Red Rocks. Awesome stuff.

Under A Blood Red Sky was my first VHS, it's awesome.

  24. john lennonist

john lennonist There ONCE was a NOTE, PURE and EASY...

The first three above all else... in order:

    "Woodstock"

    "Monterey Pop"

    "The Kids Are All Right"

The rest... in no particular order:

    "A Film About Jimi Hendrix"

    "Pink Floyd at Pompeii"

    "Rust Never Sleeps"
    -- Neil Young

    "The Last Waltz"

"Elvis...1968 Comeback Special" -- "In the Round" section only

The Pogues St. Patrick's Day Show -- Don't know what it's called, I have a DVD dub from a VHS tape... Special Guests Kirsty MacColl and one of the guys from the Clash on a song or two each

(There's a Grateful Dead DVD or two that will make the grade...
not sure of the title(s) I have at this point

My favorite performances... that I go back to over and over again:

"Beatles on the Roof" -- ("Let it Be")

"A Quick One" -- The 'Oo... and "Yer Blues" (without the dorky intro) -- The Dirty Mac -- ("Rolling Stones Rock 'n' Roll Circus")

"Unchained Melody" -- Elvis (from 1977)
