    OK, here's my favourites:

    Queen - Live Killers
    Kiss - Alive II
Bee Gees - Here At Last...Live
Bette Midler - Live At Last!
Wings - Over America [ok, I know its a triple, but I think its still in the spirit of the thread! :) ]

Theres also three great live albums recorded in the 70s that didnt make it out till 1980 that I would happily have included. Eagles Live, Fleetwood Mac Live and Supertramp's Paris.

I'm new to the forum. I just finished listening to Side 1 of "Made in Japan". I thought to myself, "Surely there is a 'Top Live Albums' thread on this forum." There was. So I'm bumping it back to the top. I've seen lots of votes for ABB at the Fillmore. Great pick. I just recently picked up Grand Funk Live. I can't believe that I didn't have that one back in the day. I was never a huge GFRR fan. But that album smokes. I haven't gone through this entire thread. So, in all likelihood, someone has mentioned "Twin Peaks" by Mountain. One of my personal favorites. I mean, what's better than a half hour of Nantucket Sleigh Ride?

More good fun with a "Top (fill-in the blank)" thread. And more good material for me to add to my collection.

I can't do just 5, because there are so many. And I can't do just doubles, so there are a triple albums in here:

The Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East
    The Beach Boys In Concert
    Grateful Dead Europe '72
    Yessongs
    Wings Over America
    Genesis Seconds Out
    The Concert For Bangla Desh

Keep in mind that I still need to go through this thread and read all of the posts. But here's one that I would bet that no one has mentioned:

    Jethro Tull - Bursting Out

It bogs down a bit in some of the acoustic stuff. But the live version of Thick as a Brick is, IMO, bad***. Martin Barre at his best. Same for Hunting Girl, A New Day Yesterday, and The Dambusters' March. Which reminds me that I need to find a copy of this on vinyl (to replace one discarded 25 years ago).

I recently picked up a copy of ELP WBMFTTSTNE on vinyl. I've had it on CD for years and discarded my old vinyl copy 25 years ago. I have a hard time deciding which versions of ELP I like best. Sometimes I'm in the mood for studio Tarkus (on MFSL) and sometimes nothing will do but the live version (Aquatarkus is phenomenal).

I'm surprised the Doors Absolutely Live isn't getting any/many mentions.

    Here's my list-

    CSNY - 4 Way Street
George Harrison & Friends - The Concert for Bangladesh
    Doors - Absolutely Live
Humble Pie - Rockin the Fillmore

SPECIAL MENTION. [This doesn't technically qualify, since it wasn't released until 2004, but it IS of a 1970s concert, and it's wonderful--

Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
    Neil Young - Live Rust
David Bowie - Live at Santa Monica/Stage/Live/Ziggy Live, etc
The Band, etc - The Last Waltz

*The first double live I heard. I think I have let fond memories of it grow unchecked over the years and am now a little scared of playing it in case it isn't as good as I remember it. Some of it would make a perfect football chant:
Only you can rock me Reading
Come on back now do it again
Only you can rock me, Reading
Kicking out just like a hurricane
We can't wait from day to day

I remember dozens of great live albums from the seventies, but mostly only on one disc and not over 50 minutes.

Talking strictly about Double LPs with an extended running time over one hour, I would indeed call only five releases in total from that decade truly classic and really outstanding:

    - Colosseum Live
    - Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East
    - Doors - Absolutely Live
    - Zappa & Mothers - Roxy & Elsewhere
    - Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Live Rust

Bangla-Desh was 3LP box & Europe 72 was a 3 LP set & Ian Hunter was in 80 not the 1970s & I never was a fan of solo McCartney but if I recall WOA was a 3 LP set as well

  24. I know. You missed "The Last Waltz", that was also a triple. I saw a few other folks listing triples & figured I'd toss them in here. At least I ignored numerous great single live albums! My list was already way overboard, but noting my parameter busting- it means my list of 17 involved only 12 real pure classic double lives from the 70's! Not quite so far overboard...

I saw someone else noted the Ian Hunter-Mick Ronson Band album was released in 80', but it's so brilliant that I just couldn't resist & now it gets talked about more- Yay & thanks! And, for the record, the original release was also only 3 sides live with side 4 consisting of 3 new studio tracks & one last live cut- but the CD reissue happily adds a few more live cuts, bringing it to classic live double length...

I was tempted to toss in Eric Clapton's "Just One Night" (recorded with thw great Albert Lee on guitar) which, like "Welcome To The Club", was recorded at the tale end of the year (Nov for Ian-Mick & Dec for Eric) & also released in '80 & "Live Dead" (by The Grateful Dead), a late '69 release, but I resisted. Here they are now though!

Also The Velvet Underground album was from '74, but the shows are all '69 (surprised I was, I think, the first to mention it here)... and, one of my honorable mentions, "One For The Road" is from 1980 & recorded that year too... at least I didn't go all the way to "The Concert In The Park" by Simon & Garfunkel (late '81 show, released in '82) which someone also loved enough to mention & add to their list.
