The obvious greats (Europe 72, Wings Over America, Yessongs) were triples, so I only need two spaces.

    Beach Boys - In Concert
This is the album that finally got me into the Beach Boys. (In 2016, mind you.) This is an album that will show you a band with chops, a deep bench of dynamic songwriters, a wide array of songs, and sublime energy. Their best lineup hands-down, and my favorite rendition of "Sloop John B". Show this to someone who doesn't like the Beach Boys. Worked on me.

Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention - Roxy and Elsewhere
It's always hard to tell with FZ why he decides why some albums are presented as being "live" and some are not. In this case, though, the banter between songs makes it clear, and also is essential to making an album as warm and inviting as its bookends, "Apostrophe" and "One Size Fits All". These are mostly new/exclusive songs, and you can go in blind and get it - or go in with some prior knowledge and dig some of that conceptual continuity (poodles!). It sounds so warm and inviting, even though it's nonstop virtuosity - of all the FZ albums except possibly Apostrophe, this feels the most like he wants me to hear it. Again, my favorite of his touring bands.

*J.Geils Full house is a single album if I remember correctly

I agree with the Harry Chapin and would also add his 2nd live double album Legends of of the lost and found from 1979 , these two live albums are so much better than his (often sterile) studio recordings

I think most of my favourites have already been listed but would like to add these

Rather late to this thread, but both the double album in a gatefold sleeve and the large number of outstanding twin LP '70's live albums made this a great era. Some sadly lost some of the charm in the CD era, especially when songs were removed or edited to fit onto a single CD, the original Live Rust, single disc versions of One More For The Road and Shadows And Light suffering this fate.

Rather than repeat the usual but brilliant, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, UFO, Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Thin Lizzy, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell etc, and The Enid, Live At Hammersmith Vol 1 and 2 not really counting [but my favourite(s)], I'll offer two.

The first already suggested by @carlwm is the incredible Lindisfarne, Magic In The Air. The performance, atmosphere and extremely good sonics make this an excellent listen, and certainly makes me wish I was there partying with the others.

If this is too English (though for some the Geordie dialect may sound like a foreign language!), one that I haven't seen mentioned here, is the brilliant John Stewart, The Phoenix Concerts. Again not the usual rock, but superb.

I could not agree more with these two suggestions , the Lindisfarne really captures the live atmosphere of their annual Xmas live concerts at Newcastle City Hall.
As for the John Stewart, I strongly recommend the cd version for the additional 2 tracks

Yes, both brilliant albums which I have both on vinyl and CD. The two extra tracks on Complete make it even more essential, but I do prefer the original cover, and used it for my digital library. Still not the same as a gatefold sleeve..... but an excellent CD and easier to find than the long deleted album. In the days before Duscogs and eBay, it sadly took nearly a decade to find the LP.

I agree with the cover art (never understood why Bear Family felt the need to change the original ) , and I have got the double album, too. The reason why I bought the cd at the time was because I had a German RCA (green) copy of the album, with rather poor pressing quality, but have replaced it in the meantime with a better sounding US RCA (black) copy

Unusual for a German pressing to be poor, though you would expect the US to sound better. Mine is the UK orange RCA and sounds great, though I've not compared it to the US pressing.

I do hope people give the album a listen if they haven't heard it: everyone I've played it to loves it.

Yes German pressings are usually very good, but all the green RCA pressings I have heard (mainly Elvis, apart from the John Stewart ) were poor,
there are not too many green RCA's as far as I know and Idon't know the story behind these pressings, but I avoid them if possible

A few Eighties set in there. Take them out of the equation and you're a bit closer to five! :righton:

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

Further on from this; my mate Ted took his vinyl collection up to a well-known record store to weigh them in, get cash back. They phoned him and agreed a price, but ‘Magic In The Air’ is one they didn’t want. What???

Heathens, Magic In The Air is an incredible album and sounds amazing blasting out very loud!

Love the "clunk" when Rod plugs the bass back in after the sing along in We Can Swing Together! A brilliant, truly live album.
