In no particular order per se: Hemispheres Signals A Farewell To Kings Moving Pictures Counterparts Honrable mentions: Permanent Waves 2112 Clockwork Angels Power Windows Snakes and Arrows
Signals is number 1 Permanent Waves is 2 And then in nor order really Grace Under Pressure Power Windows A Farewell To Kings Special mention to Presto and A Show of Hands as they were my gateway drugs into the band.
Would have been interesting if everyone shared their ages as a well. Bet there would have been some correlation with albums chosen and the order. 1. Permanent Waves 2. 2112 3. Moving Pictures. 4. Grace Under Pressure 5. Power Windows or maybe Signals Age: 57
Mine has stayed the same since last post. 1. Power Windows 2. Signals 3. Grace Under Pressure 4. Moving Pictures 5. Hold Your Fire Age: 39.
Interesting, so what was your first Rush album you bought upon release. Mine was Moving Pictures. When Grace Under Pressure was coming out, like a day or two before, they had a listening party at one of our local theaters and played the whole album for us. I think I skipped my college classes to go listen and that made a really positive impact on me, especially the song Red Sector A, but the whole album is probably more special to me because to that early listening party.
Probably same as last time also. It changes a little every now and then, though. 5. MP 4. PW (1980) 3. 2112 2. HYF 1. Presto Honorable mentions: Exit and SOH.
No order, but these are the 5 I turn to again and again. Hemispheres Signals Moving Pictures Hold Your Fire Vapor Trails
My first Rush album was Presto around the time it was released. It was a free gift from my dad's friend who was working in a record store. But I never liked that album. I remember older boys in my building listening to Rush a lot. I never liked the music... The first Rush song that I liked was Driven. My first Rush album that I bought was Permanent Waves in 1999. When I got back into vinyl three years ago one of my first albums that I bought was Power Windows. So I have never really bought any Rush albums upon its release. The closest of doing so have been Test For Echo.
Ok, here is my scenario. The starship Rocinante is coming for me tonight and as I pack I get to pick 5 Rush studio albums. We’re headed for Xanadu, or maybe Cygnus X-1 - either way there is no way to know when we’ll be back or if we’ll be back. I’m bringing: A Farewell To Kings Power Windows Fly By Night Clockwork Angels Permanent Waves The main reason these aren’t in my top 5 is that I’ve listened to them so many times the other would sound fresher to me, for awhile. Counterparts, Roll the Bones, Grace Under Pressure, Hold Your Fire. If I had included live albums, I would put in Rush in Rio and Exit Stage Left then the rest of my list would be quite different!
They don't have a ranking as I love them all fairly equally, but in chronological order... A Farewell to Kings Hemispheres Signals Counterparts Snakes & Arrows
- All the World’s a Stage (first album I purchased in 1976 after hearing side 1 played in its entirety on a college radio station) - Fly By Night - Caress of Steel - 2112 - Moving Pictures Honorable mentions… - A Farewell to Kings - Hemispheres - Permanent Waves - Exit… Stage Left
Moving Pictures Signals Permanent Waves A Farewell To Kings Grace Under Pressure or Snakes and Arrows for 5th. Top 4 are def's. Live I love Exit Stage Left and Rush In Rio such much but wish they were better sounding. Rio was such rowdy crowd and love the setlist. I wonder if they can ever improve the sound though
You know what I get from this thread so far? I really need to give a better listen to Farwell To Kings and Hemispheres as they are on so many folks lists, but not mine. Sounds like a great project for this week! I'll report back with my thoughts. Anyone want to join me?
Signals Permanent Waves A Farewell To Kings Grace Under Pressure Moving Pictures One of the greatest rock bands of all. Saw them live in 1982. Awesome.
