Got thru half the thread - all my favorites were mentioned several times.

Decided to up the ante to a strict interpretation of 1970s which means STARTED IN THE 1970s, so no groups starting in the 60s who got big or bigbig in 70s and no starting in 70s and obscure til the 80s Also no groups already mentioned.

    So here goes . . .

    Hot Tuna

    Plasmatics

    Barnaby Bye . . .

Here is a timeless classic from Barnaby Bye to refresh your memory, "Blonde" 1975

No offence intended here, but we've just had some national school exam results released here in the U.K. and I can't help imagining some of the posters in this thread responding to one or two of the questions.....

Q: Name the six wives of Henry the Eighth

    A: 1) Jane Seymour
    2) David Hasselhoff
    3) 1917
    4) Pythagoras' Theorem
    5) A Jockstrap
    6) The Gross Domestic Product of South Africa
    7) Lemmy from Motorhead

    3 favorites:
    Grateful Dead
    Allman Brothers
    Little Feat

3 Honorable Mentions (although there are too many to count):
    Hot Tuna
    Santana
New Riders of the Purple Sage

Its heartening to see all the love for Little Feat. I mean I've always loved them, but I've had the impression that although they have a following, they were a bit underappreciated. So it was good to see so many of you have them on your list.

Steely Dan was a band for a short time but became a duo with studio musicians and session artists. It explains why most of their recordings are polished.

Van Halen would be there, but they're sort of both '70s and '80s having only released two albums in the '70s (and recorded part of the third). Also, shoutout to Blue Oyster Cult and the original Alice Cooper band. They'd be 4 and 5.

This was one of the largest outdoor concert events in the 70's. It's called the BEACHAGO concerts.
Record producer James William Guercio persuaded the two great bands to perform together when Chicago was at the peak of their career and the Beach Boys was making a comeback as a nostalgia act.
