I remember finding Zardoz on LD at the Tower in D.C. back in the mid 90's. I hadn't seen it in widescreen before that and I was in heaven. Must have watched it 5 times that 1st week just to soak in what I had been missing.

I found my copy in a used shop and got it cheap. I doubt I watched it 5 times the week I got it but I watched it plenty. I had a big time using clips from Zardoz in videos I made from clips. I loved the scene where Connery shoots the camera....amongst others....

In my mind, Zardoz is a comedy and I get the giggles every time I so much as think about the film....

Zardoz, Lifeforce, Roadhouse... damn, that's pure cinema gold! I'd love to see an anamorphic release of Lifeforce, as soon as I saw Lifeforce in my Laserdisc guide I ordered it. Amazing film!

In the wake of 2001 filmmakers got the idea into their heads that serious science fiction movies had to be long, slow and dominated by heavy symbolism. This begat Soylent Green, Rollerball and Zardoz; ideas with potential undone by ponderous self-seriousness. (This is distinct from serious science fiction like 2001, one of the great works of art of the last century.)

It will long be debated what effect Star Wars had on the whole film industry but one clear benefit was that they stopped making movies like Zardoz.

I wish I had seen it in the theaters because the visual of the giant flying head must have been a sight to see on the big screen.

No you don't. The only sight to see was Charlotte Rampling.
