For me,particular songs sound better at different times of they day or year. For instance,i would never listen to King Diamond or Mercyful Fate while driving on a sunny afternoon. Now at night,of course its a different story. Something like Erasure I will listen to any time of the year. Anyway... I made a couple of compilations with in the last several months. One I call Hard Rock Summer and was,as the title implies, for driving on those hot summer days; QUEEN rock it DAVID LEE ROTH going crazy ACCEPT screaming for a love bite ALICE COOPER hard rock summer DOKKEN just got lucky THE CARS looking for love BRUCE DICKINSON dive dive dive ROSE TATTOO freedoms flame DEF LEPPARD armageddon it VAN HALEN little guitars JUDAS PRIEST last rose of summer SAMMY HAGAR your love is driving me crazy DONNIE IRIS tough world GTR when the heart rules the mind DEEP PURPLE dont hold your breath Grey Skies:Songs For A Rainy Day YES tempus fugit BRUCE DICKINSON son of a gun BLACK SABBATH sign of the southern cross DEPECHE MODE two minute warning THOMAS DOLBY wind power ELVIS PRESLEY kentucky rain ULTRAVOX stranger within JON ANDERSON requiem for the americas BUGGLES rainbow warrior QUEENSRYCHE before the storm THE FIXX facing the wind GIANNI FERRIO let it rain let it pour IRON MAIDEN the thin line between love and hate

I've always been really fascinated with the whole Nashville country rock era in the late 60's, and wanted to make a cohesive collection of countrified Bob Dylan covers, using his more contemporary Basement Tapes / John Wesley Harding era songs either recorded in Nashville, or featuring players from the Nashville scene. Here is a link to the playlist on Spotify. (I made some artwork for it which is featured above). Skyline Revisited: Nashville Covers Bob Dylan (1968-1970), a playlist by toddrawson on Spotify Side One: You Ain't Goin' Nowhere - The Byrds (Sweetheart Of The Rodeo) The Mighty Quinn - Ian & Sylvia (Nashville) Down In The Flood - Flatt & Scruggs (Changin' Times) Drifter's Escape - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) I'll Be Your Baby Tonight - Flatt & Scruggs (Nashville Airplane) I Pity The Poor Immigrant - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Tears Of Rage - Ian & Sylvia (Full Circle) Side Two: One More Night - Flatt & Scruggs (Final Fling) I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Nashville Skyline Rag - Flatt & Scruggs (Final Fling) Dear Landlord - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Wheel's On Fire - Ian & Sylvia (Nashville) I Shall Be Released - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Nothing Was Delivered - The Byrds (Sweetheart Of The Rodeo) Bonus Tracks: Nashville Skyline Rag - Earl Scruggs & Bob Dylan (Performing w/ Family & Friends) You Ain't Goin' Nowhere - Earl Scruggs & The Byrds (Performing w/ Family & Friends) Love Is A Four Letter Word - Earl Scruggs & Joan Baez (Performing w/ Family & Friends) You can also make a pretty great playlist of pre Basement Tape era and Whitmark songs covered in this vein by Joan Baez and Flatt & Scruggs - but I thought it would be fun to stick with the more contemporary tracks. This would be the rest: Love Is Just A Four Letter Word - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Mr. Tambourine Man - Flatt & Scruggs (Changin' Times) North Country Blues - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Don't Think Twice It's All Right - Flatt & Scruggs (Changin' Times) Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Low Lands - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Blowin' In The Wind - Flatt & Scruggs (Changin' Times) Love Minus Zero / No Limit - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) It Ain't Me Babe - Flatt & Scruggs (Changin' Times) The Walls Of Redwing - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Rainy Day Women #12 & #35 - Flatt & Scruggs (Nashville Airplane) The Times They Are A-Changin' - Flatt & Scruggs (Nashville Airplane) One Too Many Mornings - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Maggie's Farm - Flatt & Scruggs (Final Fling) Boots Of Spanish Leather - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Girl From The North Country - Flatt & Scruggs (Final Fling) Walkin' Down The Line - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance - Flatt & Scruggs (Final Fling) Restless Farewell - Joan Baez (Any Day Now) Like A Rolling Stone - Flatt & Scruggs (Nashville Airplane) Love Is Just A Four Letter Word - Earl Scruggs (Nashville's Rock)

I love this post and wish I had the time to list some songs, but until I do let's just say I'm still at it with such gems as-The Major[Major Lance]-Spinnin The Hits[The Spinners]-The Oueen-Vol-1-2[Aretha]-Just Smooth[Nat King Cole-Johnny Mathis]The Kendricks Phile[Eddie Kendricks]-The Drifters[1953-73].
This is amazing, and as always your artwork and packaging are incredible. I've been planning (for years) to do my own re-working of the Anthology CDs, but I'm taking a different approach. Rather than expand it with all my favorite bootleg cuts (that would be another collection), I want to do a traditional soundtrack album for the Anthology film, with their greatest regular tracks enhanced by the best of the live and outtake material. It would mainly be a way to compile the best of the remixes of the canon material from this century, drawing from the Anthology DVDs, the AHDN / Help / MMT DVDs and (now) the 1+ DVDs and CD. Sequence it all chronologically with the best of the "bootleg" material and you'd have a traditional late-1980s / 1990s 4-CD box set (think Clapton's Crossroads or the Elton John & Rod Stewart models) -- something I alway thought the Beatles should have done. It would have been a "safe" way to introduce remixes into the catalog, and it would have put the best of the outtake stuff in a better context for casual fans to appreciate it. Someday .... but in the meantime ..........
I'm turning 50 this year, and I am currently in the middle of compiling and sequencing a massive life-spanning series of CDs / playlists / whatever they are these days for myself. This won't be merely my "favorite" songs of a given year, but only the stuff that truly evokes a memory or a period of my life. From my earliest non-verbal memory of music (the "2001 A Space Odyssey" theme) through the usual childhood suspects (Sesame Street, The Electric Company, Schoolhouse Rock, the Muppets), early-70s AM radio, and much much more -- this will essentially be my "autobiography" in music. I'm working to re-create specific memories of long-lost mixtapes and songs captured off the radio, my first records and record player, etc. I'm trying to keep it to a "reasonable" 20-25 CDs worth of music.
