Having to catch up as I've been on dusty road and splinter ride with alt-country choices all those years ago from those fabulous early 70's with such notable musicians as Clarence White and Gene Clark, to name but a few. I've enjoyed those 'elevation moment' posts when the listening is coming around just about exactly right. We all strive for that moment, and when it comes it's a grand reward. As someone posted, it happens, but it is not common and I think I agree with that. Whether the times have ultimately bled the art of listening to its bloody end is another topic, but I do feel fortunate that it has not passed me by just yet. Wouldn't be any fun if we were 'la la-ed' like that on a constant basis, or would it? I get moments like that more than I deserve, though I don't want to turn into eggplant for at least a little while longer. ESP has been a great spin, and the slower brooding cuts have had me 'there' this afternoon. When Little One, followed by Isis played, it did create one of those moments in time-it was almost perfect. disc one:
I've been enjoying this one record I got as a recommendation for best release of 2018 on this forum Starting Today, by Joe Armon-Jones Really good jazz-dub fusion
Late 70s repress of Ornette w Cherry, Haden and Higgens Boought this decades ago but my current setup gets beautiful sound out of this repress. I love when that happens (Late 70s represses are sometimes a bit hit and miss of course though Atlantic fares better then most Ive found)
Stopped by the CD store and picked up 'Thelonious Monk genius of modern music' volume two. This is a 24 bit Toshiba made "Limited Edition, Reissue, Remastered, Mono, Paper Sleeve" TOCJ-9042 and stopped off at Goodwill and picked up 'The Very Best of Tito Puente' CD. Good times!
...just got this today. Still filling in cracks in my Monk collection. This is killer! I feel like I’m sitting a couple tables away from the stage. Thelonious Monk: Live at The Jazz Workshop S.F., CA (Nov. 3 & 4, 1964)
I bought the boxed set as a download from 7digital for $15. I've listened to about half of it once. I really don't like the vocals. Fortunately, they're only a few tracks per album, but I dislike them enough that I probably won't be listening to them much. Even musically, I prefer the Gong albums he's on.
I've never really listened to Gong, i need to check them out. In the end it may not be your cuppa, but give the Holdsworth another try at some point. My first exposure to him as a leader was Metal Fatigue, which i borrowed from the library, and i didn't dig it at all. Years later i listened to IOU via Youtube and something clicked. I absolutely love him now (including Metal Fatigue) but i think he is sui generis and an acquired taste. Also, with his leader stuff you probably need to have a sympathetic ear for 80s fusion rather than 70s which probably doesn't help for some listeners. IOU is the one album of his (that i own) where i don't skip any tracks.

Do you know the story behind the individual albums being re-released as a 2 disc set? Weird stuff going on on Discogs, where Memories and Four are currently blocked for sale. I own Four on German CD, and wanted to add Memories to my collection too...
I find myself going back to Directions by Miles Davis a lot at the moment & the track 'Fun' in particular, which is an amazing piece of music. Having done a quick bit of research on it I've found that a Bucky Pizzarelli plays guitar on it, does anyone know anything about this 1968 session or how Pizzarelli came to appear?
Unfortunately, there is no additional information about Bucky Pizzarelli's appearance in Bob Belden's annotations to the January 11, 1968 session from the metal spine set.
I find myself looking, more and more, for jazz with strings when I want to relax. I used to hate them, that's why I only have some few jazz albums with strings. Can you name your favorites ? I prefer having this thread advice than looking for some top-10-list elsewhere. Currently playing this one: Stan Getz's tone together with strings is almost unbeatable.
Don't know if this has been mentioned but, mentioned in another thread this is up for pre-order Bitches Brew Quadraphonic SA-CD Multi Hybrid Edition [Limited Release] Miles Davis SACD
I find that when I listen to music I missed in the 70s and 80s, I usually don’t like it all that much, especially fusion and rock. Gong is really two bands, the Daevid Allen led psychedelic band in the early 70s and the Pierre Moerlen led fusion band in the late 70s. I love both. My favorite album is Gazeuse!. Holdswoth is on it. It’s heavy on the percussion with 4 percussionists, which is fine with me.
Though not necessarily relaxing, and not your typical "with strings" album this one came to my mind immediately, I love it. Greg Osby "Symbols of Light"
