Love the sound of this 'bad boy'.
It's on so many songs, and kind of comes in and out of style and recordings
that it makes it a wonderful instrument.
If anyone is interested, how about posting your favorite songs using the
    Danelectro/Fender VI bass.
Thoughts about the sound and the context that it is used?

Those unfamiliar with the instrument or the sound, check out a guy
that had hit records using it, Duane Eddy:

The sound became a big part of the Bert Kaempfert records in the 60's, early in this video

Rinus Gerritsen (Golden Earring) used the bass in the 70’s.... listen to the famous bass riff on Radar Love.

As you said, signature Bert Kaempfert sound. It's all over this underappreciated gem from '63:

Huge Kaempfert fan here because of that 'Tic Tac' Bass.

There's a really good older Kaempfert 'bass sound' thread here.

At first blush Bert's music may appear to be nothing more than elevator-esque "easy listening," but most of his arrangements have subtle things going on below the hood, including but not limited to major/minor key inversions, time signature changes, chord modulations, etc. The guy was a master.

That Fender VI six string bass pictured in the OP is one of the new inexpensive Squier reissue versions. They’re pretty cool.

But how ‘bout a real 1960s one? They’re quite rare, I bet most people have never even seen such a thing in person. I used to sell vintage guitars and only saw a few over many years.

The bass player in this band has a Foam Green one!

The other dude has a sweet Fender electric twelve string, it looks like it could be Lake Placid Blue.

A very exciting selection of custom colors:

I believe Jack Bruce plays one on Fresh Cream, although I don’t know if it’s on all tracks.
