OK, "World That I See" is the best sounding song from this album posted so far. Like Mark, I think this album has some fine songs. I want to like it more than I do. Unlike the previous two albums, I can see myself owning this album, but I'm just not sure - time will tell.
Poets And Slaves This song starts off with a keyboard and a synth pulse and Garrett comes in with the vocals and then a piano plays a sweet arpeggio, that then turns a little sinister. The second verse follows the same structure as the first with some extra little sounds in there as well, with drums coming in at the arpeggio. We get a nice sounding lead break that leads to a change. This song is different, but it is very good.
as a bonus track on the US version we have Say Your Prayers This song on first listen sounds like it came from the Redneck Wonderland album. It isn't quite as extreme as those songs, but sounding more tech experimental. It ends up being a good rock song.
These two songs come as bonus tracks on the European version Kiss That Girl Again this bonus track sounds more in line with Redneck Wonderland than Capricornia ... this is a pretty decent song, but a very different kind of theme for the Oils
Pub with No Beer This is a cover of the Slim Dusty classic.... I think I prefer the original lol ... I am imagining that this was on a tribute album at some point and rendered here for the European market ... the reasons befuddle me to be honest ....
Capricornia as an album is kind of hit or miss for me, but I feel that Poets And Slaves is one of their best songs ever. And as the last song on their final album (on my version of the album anyway), it was an absolutely perfect way to put a pin in their career. If they never release any more new music I will be happy with the way they chose to end it.

Your links to songs, live clips and pictures has been truly outstanding. I thought I'd leave you with a quote from Jim Moginie about your favourite album; "I think if you love the Oils, then you love 10 to 1,” says Moginie. “There’s something about the sound of it that doesn’t sound like any other bands from that time. The dynamics of it are mercurial and curly. Diesel is a very clear record and it sounded good on the radio, but 10 to 1 was wilder. It was more...” He pauses for a moment to try to find the right word. Then it comes to him. “It was more us.”"
Glad you enjoyed it mate. That makes it worthwhile. A lot of the bands i love get pretty much looked over around these parts lol. I agree with Jim Moginie. I reckon they founf their feet and made a classic all time album and then the machinations of the industry pulled them into line. I still like the later stuff, but that album is pretty special
I recently played all the Midnight Oil albums in a marathon listening session. It was very enjoyable. Spinning the Peter Garrett-A Version Of Now solo disc now. Love it

Two of my favourite bands came from Australia and had names that began with the word "Midnight". I dare say the other (Midnight Juggernauts) is somewhat less well known, at least on this forum, but they do not deserve to be unknown.

I've been lurking for a while now but I just wanted to say how much I've appreciated your aussie album threads. I was really looking forward to your review of "The Real Thing" CD but I guess you never got that one plus it's kind of an odd bird with studio / live & acoustic sets so some may consider it more of a throwaway album. I may be in the minority but I've always enjoyed the title track; pretty simple lyrically but ended up a real earworm for me back in the day:
