i enjoyed my time with Starkrimson. After I am back to US, I may order Bosc monoblocks as sub amp to my tube amp. best Thomas
Fantastic Thomas...hope your travels are safe, your visit with your with Granddaughter-GRAND and your experience at the Seoul Audio Show-Enlightening!! FWIW and IME, you would Find those "Instrumental Halos" and "Nuanced Details" (+ More) in Leo's Orchard Audio Starkrimson Stereo Ultra, incorporating the Dual SMPS and 28.2K additional uF capacitance per channel Amp Build!!! Ted
Thanks for your kind word. I will report what is going on Seoul Audio show. I am going to use the amp to drive main tower of Scaena 3.2 (94db/W) from 180 hz and up. Thus I need only 50-100 clean watts. Thus Bosc monoblocks will be enough for my need.

I just finished packing up the Starkrimson Ultra and sending it on to the next person on the tour so I thought I would share some thoughts. Since I signed up for the tour my main system changed completely and now consists of Magnepan 3.7's, PS Audio BHK 300 Monoblocks, and a Cary SLP-05 preamp. Before it was Tekton Moabs and an Aric Audio 300B SET amp and I also had the Peachtree GaN 400 in that system. Unfortunately, because of how heavy the BHK 300's are and how my system is currently configured, I don't have the ability to easily switch amps out the way I did before I switched to the 3.7's so this review is going to be a little limited. The Magnepan 3.7s are difficult speakers for any amp and I wasn't that happy with how my Peachtree GaN 400 or any of the other amps I had tried worked with them. It wasn't until I got the BHK 300 monoblocks that I finally felt the 3.7s competed well with the Tekton Moabs. Not surprisingly, I didn't think the Starkrimson beat out the BHK 300 monoblocks with the 3.7s and I wasn't able to try them with the Moabs. The Starkrimson sounded good, especially at the top end which had a wonderful level of detail without any harshness. But I felt the Starkrimson had less richness, density, smaller soundstage, less sense of space, less presence and just less of the magic I feel the BHK 300's bring. Those are similar issues that I had with all the other amps I tried with the 3.7s so I don't think it has anything to do with the Starkrimson. I did like the overall tonal balance and level of detail of the Starkrimson and felt it was a very good amp for the money. I wish I had been able to compare it directly to the Peachtree GaN 400. Audio memory is a tricky thing but I did feel the Starkrimson was slightly better than the GaN 400 which was a very good amp with the Moabs. The GaN 400 was a little thin sounding and I felt the Starkrimson was more balanced.

The Ultra arrived in so. Nevada this morning. It was very well packaged…thanks Paul… and I finally got it hooked up after resolving some streaming issues with the iFi Zen. First impression is good and that’s after only being on a little while. Nick

Here is what Jay's Iyagi had to say about our room Florida Audio Expo: "Really good dynamics, really good neutral and smooth sound to it", "Good depth and sound-staging", and "Everything was fluid liquid and overall flew really very well in this room"
Please note: Starting with @rhing the tour amp is now the dual mono configuration with caps MSRP at $3500. I got a unit back from a reviewer and @Nick BZ decided to purchase the current tour unit when I asked him about it. He will post his review later, I believe it will be a positive one based on his purchase. Ummm…..yes…..it will be quite positive The Ultra is replacing a wonderful amp, the AVA SET 120. I’ll post my review soon, but I just received JMReynaud speakers with the AST/AMT tweeters and want to put more hours on them. They already sound quite nice.
IMHO, a Great move, Leo! With user fully balanced Pre inputs, Future Starkrimson Ultra tour testers (and ultimately audiophile consumers) will get to Hear (read about) the "additional sonic benefits" of your Dual Mono Power Supplies and the 28.K uF of extra Capacitance design that easily competes with amps 5x your MSRP!!! Ted
Maybe I should jump back on the tour and compare it side by side with the original. I can wait until Barry gets the tour unit and bring mine over to his place.
